چکیده

In this paper, we examine the modular development of two alternate methods for distributed computation of the forward dynamics simulations of constrained mechanical systems such as four-bar linkages. We exploit the natural spatial parallelism of closed-chain linkages, initially, for the modular development of overall dynamics and subsequently, for the distributed numerical simulation of the dynamics. Traditionally, the numerical simulation problem of constrained mechanical systems has been treated as two separate stages: the problem of algorithm development and the subsequent numerical problem of advancing the discretized differential equations in time. However the potential numerical instabilities arising from the formulation stiffness of the algorithm development stage has the potential to hinder the subsequent numerical integration stage. These aspects are also explored during the evaluation of the two alternative approaches for the distributed forward dynamics simulation of a four-bar linkage and preliminary results to quantify the overall computational efficiency and accuracy are presented.

Dynamic Behavior Analysis of a Planar Four-bar Linkage with Multiple Clearances Joint

In practice, clearances in the joints are inevitable due to tolerances, and defects arising from design and manufacturing. In the presence of clearance at a joint, a mechanism gains some additional, uncontrollable degrees of freedom which are the source of error. Moreover, joints undergo wear and backlashes and so cannot be used in precision mechanisms. In this study, the dynamic behaviour of ...

Nonlinear dynamic analysis of a four-bar mechanism having revolute joint with clearance

In general, joints are assumed without clearance in the dynamic analysis of multi-body echanical systems. When joint clearance is considered, the mechanism obtains two uncontrollable degrees of freedom and hence the dynamic response considerably changes. The joints’ clearances are the main sources of vibrations and noise due to the impact of the coupling parts in the joints. Therefore, the syst...

Synthesis of Reactionless Spatial 3-DoF and 6-DoF Mechanisms without Separate Counter-Rotations

In this paper we present the synthesis of novel reactionless spatial three-degrees-of-freedom (3-DoF) and 6-DoF mechanisms without any separate counter-rotation, using four-bar linkages. Based on the conditions of dynamic balancing of a single planar four-bar linkage developed elsewhere, the spatial problem is shown to be equivalent to ensuring that the inertia tensor of reactionless four-bar l...

Pareto Optimal Balancing of Four-bar Mechanisms Using Multi-Objective Differential Evolution Algorithm

Four-bar mechanisms are widely used in the industry especially in rotary engines. These mechanisms are usually applied for attaining a special motion duty like path generation; their high speeds in the industry cause an unbalancing problem. Hence, dynamic balancing is essential for their greater efficiency. In this research study, a multi-objective differential evolution algorithm is used for P...
